Benefits of volunteering

Volunteering is an enriching experience in so many ways.

When you become part of the SOS BC team, you have an opportunity to:

  • support a cause you truly believe in
  • apply your skills and learn some new ones
  • meet new people, make new friends and develop professional contacts
  • feel the personal satisfaction of helping others
  • make a difference in your own community

The rewards are as unique and personal as your reasons for wanting to volunteer.

Honouring our volunteers

Every day, volunteers across Canada devote countless time and effort to make our communities better places to live in. We say thank you in as many ways as we can. Each year outstanding SOS Children’s Village volunteers are recognized and honoured. We are proud to introduce you to some of our volunteer award recipients:

Lyle Green is our long time official ambassador. Keep your eyes open for him signing autographs at our events and helping out at the Village! Lyle Green, fullback for the BC Lions, has found time in his busy schedule to volunteers for us. Why not you?!

Bob Lenarduzzi is one of Canada's most highly decorated soccer stars with a successful career on and off the field. President of the Vancouver Whitecaps Football Club, Bob is the official spokesman for SOS BC. Watch his video interview.

DayMaker Day 2007 at the Village featured five talented ladies from the MegaHair Family who grabbed their tools and proceeded to cut, style, coif, brush, file, paint, and massage 80 guests from the Village and Outreach program. Kids, parents, and caregivers were all given the royal treatment.

Nacan Products employees took part in the Day of Caring by building a vegetable garden for the children at the Village. They also installed safety strips on the front stairs of three of our homes.

Discover your community spirit and help support children in foster care.

Whether it's planning events, yard maintenance, or simply helping out in the office, there are many ways you can help. A few hours a week, a few hours a month, any amount of your time would be greatly appreciated! All of it goes towards helping less fortunate children.
